Petersen Industries has built grapple trucks, grapple loaders, and knuckle boom loaders in Lake Wales, Florida for more than 65 years, since founder John Petersen introduced the first Lightning Loader in 1957 for handling citrus. The company entered municipal trash collection in 1973 with the TL1, and its 1979 TL3 twin boom trash loader became the industry standard. More than 1,000 cities and counties run Lightning Loaders for bulky waste collection and storm debris cleanup, including the new AL2 with 27-foot boom reach, continuous 360 degree rotation on top-seat models, and Hardox bodies up to 50 cubic yards. Design, engineering, CNC machining, fabrication, and final assembly all happen in-house. Alamo Group completed its acquisition of Petersen Industries in January 2026.
