This notice explains what Modern Public Fleet collects, what we do with it, who else sees it, and how to tell us to stop. It covers our website, The Sightline newsletter, our events, our resources, and the Solution Directory.
The short version is first. If that answers your question, you are done.
The Short Version
Who we are
Modern Public Fleet is a trade publication for the people who run public fleets. We write for fleet directors, managers, technicians, and the suppliers who work with them. We are a business publication. We do not market to or do business with individual consumers.
What we collect
What you tell us when you subscribe, register, request something, or get in touch. And what we pick up automatically while you use the site, such as which pages you read, what you search for here, and what browser you are on.
What we do with it
Send you what you asked for. Decide what to cover and what to recommend to you. Keep the site running and secure. Sell advertising, which is what pays for the journalism.
Who else sees it
Companies that work for us, such as the ones that send our email, host the site, and measure our traffic. Advertising partners. And sponsors, when you ask us for something a sponsor is offering. We tell you at the time when a sponsor is going to get your details.
What happens to my information in advertising?
We use what we learn about your interests here to choose advertising for you, on this site and on other websites, for us and for our partners.
How do I switch it off?
Use the Your Privacy Choices link at the bottom of any page. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we read that as switching it off and you do not have to do anything else.
What about children?
We write for people at work. We do not collect information from anyone under 16.
What are my rights, and how do I reach you?
Email privacy@modernpublicfleet.com. You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or tell us to stop. We will not treat you any differently for asking.

A business publication
We collect information about people in their working capacity: the fleet they run, the organization they work for, the subjects they need to keep up with. Our services are built for that audience and are not directed at individual consumers or at children.
What we collect
You give us information when you subscribe to the newsletter, register for an event, request a resource, send us material, claim a directory listing, or write to us. That is usually your contact details and your professional details, such as your role, your organization, and the kind of fleet you work with.
We and the companies that work for us also collect information automatically as you use our services, including technical information about your device and browser, what you search for here, and information about what you read.
What we use it for
- Delivering the newsletters, events, resources, and content you asked for.
- Deciding what to publish, and what to put in front of you on our own site.
- Understanding our audience and grouping readers by role, organization, and interest, so what we send is worth your time.
- Running, securing, measuring, and improving the publication.
- Answering you.
- Sending you things from us, and from sponsors whose work is relevant to public fleets.
- Selling and delivering advertising.
- Meeting our legal obligations, enforcing our terms, and protecting our readers, our contributors, and ourselves.
Who we share it with
- Companies that work for us. Analytics providers, email providers, hosting providers, and similar services. They are under contract to use what we give them only for the job we hired them to do.
- Advertising partners. The networks and measurement partners that help us deliver advertising and tell us whether it worked.
- Sponsors. When you download a sponsored resource, register for a sponsored event, or fill in a form where we say so, your details go to that sponsor so they can follow up. We say so at the point you fill it in, not afterwards.
- Aggregate figures. Audience numbers that do not identify anyone.
- Law and safety. Where the law requires it, in response to lawful requests, or to protect our readers, our contributors, or ourselves.
- A sale of the business. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.
Material you send us to publish
There is a difference between the two kinds of thing people send us, and we treat them differently.
Anything you send us to publish, such as a press release, an event listing, directory copy, a photograph, or a contributed article, is editorial material. Once it runs, we handle it like the rest of what we publish. Our Terms and Conditions set out the licence you give us when you send it.
Anything you send us as a message, such as a contact form enquiry or a newsletter signup, is your personal information. We use it to answer you and to send you what you asked for. We do not publish it.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies, tags, and browser storage to recognize your browser, remember your preferences, measure traffic, and deliver advertising. Some of them the site cannot work without. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies, and blocking some will change how the site behaves.
We also save the contact and organization details you type into our forms, on your own device, so you do not have to type them again. They stay in your browser, they are never sent to us, and you can clear them at any time from Your Privacy Choices. We never prefill a consent box, and we never prefill the form you would use to remove yourself.
Your Privacy Choices
Your Privacy Choices is one page carrying both choices: switch off the use of your information for advertising that follows you to other websites, or ask us to remove you from everything we hold. A link to it sits in the footer of every page. It is also how you make a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information request.
What switching it off does. We stop using what you read here to build advertising audiences that reach you elsewhere, and we ask our advertising partners to show you non-personalized advertising instead. You will still see advertising on Modern Public Fleet. It will still be relevant to public fleet work, because it is chosen by the page you are on rather than by you.
What it does not do. We still count what gets read so we know what to cover, and we still send you the newsletters and updates you signed up for. Those you can stop separately, using the unsubscribe link in any email.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as switching this off. You do not have to do anything, and we confirm on screen that we read it.
Do Not Track. Some browsers offer a Do Not Track setting. No agreed standard for it was ever settled, so we do not act on it. Global Privacy Control, above, is the signal we honor.
What we already hold. Switching it off stops things going forward. It does not by itself delete what we already have. Ask us and we will delete it.
Your choice is stored on the device and browser you make it on, so you will need to make it again on another browser, or after you clear your browser data.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to have it deleted, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be treated differently for exercising any of those. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have these rights by statute. We handle requests from readers in Canada the same way.
The fastest route for two of these is Your Privacy Choices, and it needs no email. That page carries the advertising opt-out, which takes effect immediately, and the form that removes you from everything we hold.
For anything else, to know what we hold about you, to get a copy, or to have it corrected, email privacy@modernpublicfleet.com and tell us what you want. Email works for all of the above too, if you would rather use it. We will ask for enough to be sure we are acting on the right record, and we will answer within the time the law allows. If we cannot do what you asked, we will tell you why. If you think we got that wrong, reply and say so, and we will look again and give you a written answer.
The Rest
How long we keep things
We keep information for as long as it serves the purposes described here, and longer where a legal, accounting, or dispute obligation requires it. After that we delete it or strip out what identifies you.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards suited to what we hold. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of anything sent over the internet.
What we do not want
We do not ask for or knowingly collect sensitive information such as government identifiers, financial account details, health information, precise location, or anything about race, religion, or political views. Please do not send it to us.
Where we operate
Modern Public Fleet operates in the United States. If you use our services from anywhere else, including Canada, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, where the privacy rules are different from the ones where you live.
Changes to this notice
We update this notice when what we do changes. When the change matters we revise the date at the top, and where it affects you directly we tell you. We publish the change here before the practice it describes starts, not after.
