Blue Bird has built school buses since 1927 and describes itself as the only US-owned and operated school bus manufacturer. From its Fort Valley, Georgia plants, the company builds Type A, C, and D buses across electric, propane, gasoline, and diesel powertrains, with electronic stability control and backup cameras as standard equipment. It is a leader in low- and zero-emission school buses, and its propane models are certified to the lowest NOx levels in the category. In 2026 Blue Bird agreed to acquire and consolidate its Micro Bird joint venture, bringing the Type A line fully under one brand. The company has more than 1,500 employees and sells in over 60 countries, supported by a North American dealer and parts network.
