Overview

Magnetic Mic makes a magnetic holder that replaces the conventional metal hang-up clip for two-way radio microphones. The idea came from Knoxville, Tennessee police officer Bryan Schreiber, who as a driving safety instructor watched trainees take their eyes off the road to find and fumble with the mic clip. He and his cousin Michael Tinter formed Innovative Products, Incorporated in 2010 and introduced the finished product to the first responder community at the 2012 Fire Department Instructor Conference. The holder retrofits the standard two-hole mount, installs in about three minutes anywhere within the driver’s reach, and works with all major microphone manufacturers and with radio systems using on-hook and off-hook settings, private line, or scan when hung up. Because the microphone snaps to the magnetic base rather than having to be guided into a clip, it can be mounted in dash and console positions that would not suit a conventional clip. Beyond police, fire and EMS the company points to mining and construction, where worn hang-up clips can sharpen and cut operators’ fingers, and it sells single unit conversion kits as well as 25 unit bulk packs.
