Coconut Creek Unveils Florida’s First Fully Electric Recycling and Waste Collection Fleet
The Florida city's recycling and refuse routes will run entirely on electric trucks.

Florida’s first fully electric residential refuse and recycling fleet is now running in Coconut Creek, a Broward County city of about 58,000 residents, under a contract between the city and Republic Services.
The fleet consists of six McNeilus Volterra EVs. Each truck carries a 360-degree camera system, lane-departure sensors, automated emergency braking and audible pedestrian alerts, along with what McNeilus describes as all-day zero-emission performance.
“This launch is a testament to the strong partnership between Coconut Creek and Republic Services, and our shared commitment to delivering exceptional service,” said Austin Metcalf, Republic Services general manager. The program will deliver service that is “cleaner and quieter,” Metcalf said, covering both recycling and waste collection routes.
Coconut Creek Mayor Jeffrey Wasserman said the city plans to pair the fleet debut with community events, describing the rollout as kicking off “with a handful of community events that bring our residents together while showcasing the creativity and our innovative spirit that make our city so special.”
