Overview

Sonny Merryman was founded in 1967 by Floyd W. Merryman Jr., known as Sonny, and his wife Lou, starting as a small bus and trailer sales business in Rustburg, Virginia. It now describes itself as Virginia’s largest and most experienced transportation dealer, with four sales and service centres at Evington, Chesapeake, Bristow and Ashland and nearly 200 employees. The company is Virginia’s exclusive dealer for Thomas Built Buses and also represents Starcraft, Startrans, Braun Mobility and Driverge Vehicle Innovations, serving schools, churches, daycare centres, senior living communities and transit properties. It is a Thomas Built Bus Platinum Support certified provider and has been named Thomas Dealer of the Year six times, which it says makes it the only dealer in the country recognised more than four times. On electric buses it has delivered more than 75 Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley school buses to Virginia localities, part of a state fleet that has passed 100 Jouley buses and one million service miles. Alongside buses it sells and rents storage containers and trailers, and holds GSA sales.
