Skydio

Autonomous drones for Drone as First Responder programs, infrastructure inspection, site security, surveying and mapping.

Overview

Skydio designs, assembles and supports autonomous drones in the United States. Its founders met at MIT in 2009, helped start Google’s Project Wing, and founded Skydio in 2014; the R1, launched in 2018, was its first autonomous drone. The company describes itself as America’s leading drone manufacturer, with a supply chain built to national security standards.

For public agencies, Skydio’s programs center on Drone as First Responder, where docked X10 drones launch remotely and put eyes on a scene in under two minutes, along with infrastructure inspection, site security, and surveying and mapping. The X10 is the primary platform, with the smaller R10 for indoor and confined spaces. Skydio cites Brookhaven Police Department reaching 30-second response times with eight docks and the Ohio Department of Transportation reporting 60 percent faster inspections and more than $800,000 in cost avoidance.
