Denver Fire Department Orders 3 Spartan S-180 Custom Pumpers
The department selected the custom cab-forward pumpers for its active fire suppression fleet.

Denver Fire Department has ordered three Spartan Emergency Response S-180 custom pumpers through authorized dealer Mile-Hi Fire Apparatus, with delivery expected in 10 to 12 months.
The order marks Denver’s first purchase of Spartan fire apparatus. Before placing it, the department’s mechanics and apparatus committee members evaluated a demo pumper, assessing its workmanship, driving characteristics and similarity to existing fleet units. Key factors in the selection were the 10-to-12-month lead time, an upgraded foam system, a 2,000 GPM pump, chassis accessibility and enhanced maneuverability.
“The Denver Fire Department is super excited for the delivery of these new Spartan Custom Pumpers,” said Division Chief Phillip Morelli. “We will have these engines in service by the end of the year instead of 2030! Mile-Hi Fire Apparatus and Spartan ER were so accommodating to our department’s needs. They worked with me and the operations chief to make sure there were no operational differences. They spent the time with us to go over every little detail. Most important, they were honest and made us feel like family.”

Spartan Emergency Response, a brand of Spartan Fire, LLC, designed the S-180 line to help departments overcome extended apparatus lead times without sacrificing quality, performance or customization. Using a modular design, the S-180 reduces engineering and manufacturing time by incorporating the most requested features and configurations while still allowing departments to tailor the apparatus to their needs. In many cases, departments can receive the pumper within 12 months and the aerial within 18 months. Denver is adding the pumpers to update its fleet and to accommodate continued growth in the city.
