Pinellas County has added a specialized “super cooler” unit to its emergency fleet to support rapid, large-scale cooling response during extreme heat events.
The unit is designed to deliver high-capacity cooling at the scene of heat-related emergencies, expanding the county’s response capability beyond conventional apparatus.
The county did not disclose the unit’s manufacturer, acquisition cost or deployment protocols.
The acquisition reflects a growing trend among local governments to equip their fleets with assets that address climate-driven response needs alongside traditional emergency apparatus, broadening the definition of what public emergency fleets are expected to carry.
