Nescon

Manufacturer of the XBroom street sweeper truck with the longest sweep time and largest hopper in its class.

Overview

Nescon manufactures the XBroom mechanical street sweeper in Arizona, drawing on a background in general contracting and asphalt milling. The XBroom is a heavy-duty pickup broom optimized for cleanup behind milling and chipping operations, with a five cubic yard net hopper intended to extend sweeping time between dumps. Its hydraulic system and high torque engine let the broom sweep at engine idle, which the company says minimises brake riding and keeps hydraulic temperatures low, and the lift system dumps faster and higher while leaving the center of the truck clear for maintenance. Standard specification is a Freightliner M2 106 Plus chassis with a 300 horsepower Cummins diesel or CNG engine, Allison 3500 six-speed transmission, a 36 inch by 60 inch main broom on pneumatic suspension with light, medium and heavy settings adjustable from the cab, gutter brooms up to 46 inches, and a 33,000 pound GVW with a non-CDL 26,000 pound option. A PLC control system automates the sweeping process so the operator can concentrate on driving and traffic, and that controller can be fitted to most competing machines. Nescon has also built cold-in-place recycling trains since 1991, developed the first front discharge single unit train, and supplies control computers used on milling machines and recycle trains.
