Overview

Spare is a transit operations platform covering paratransit, microtransit, fixed route service and asset management in one system. Its routing and scheduling engine, called Spare Engine, balances on-time performance against productivity, and Open Fleets centralises brokered trips, which the company says account for up to 70 percent of paratransit trips today. Fixed route tools let an agency draw and publish routes from a live map, keep the GTFS feed in step with the service actually running, build schedules with visibility into vehicles, drivers and demand, enforce labour rules, and reach drivers through built-in push-to-talk rather than a separate radio system. Spare EAM handles maintenance, inspections and work orders, while the analytics module produces audit-ready reporting for ADA, FTA and NTD requirements from a library of pre-built templates. AI features include Scout for plain-language reporting, AI Voice for round-the-clock multilingual booking, case intelligence for understanding on-road incidents, and a technician copilot that captures fleet data automatically. The company reports more than 200 transit partners and cites customer results including a 13 percent improvement in requests per revenue hour and $14 million in annual savings at the MBTA, 2.5 million microtransit trips at LA Metro, and a 40 percent on-time performance gain at CapMetro.
