Blac-Rac

Purpose-built gun racks that secure AR-15 type rifles in patrol vehicles.

Overview

Blac-Rac designs and manufactures firearm retention systems for law enforcement, military and civilian use, and is part of the Team GJ family of brands alongside Gamber-Johnson. Its Model 1082 is purpose-built for AR-15 and M4 style rifles, using dual opposing side plates that lock onto the lower receiver while shielding the takedown pins, magazine release and trigger from unauthorized access; it accepts rifles carrying up to 30 round magazines and does not require optics, lights or lasers to be removed. Components are cast from 304 stainless steel and precision machined for corrosion resistance, and the single point mount allows installation on prisoner partitions and in tighter spaces such as a motorcycle saddlebag. Cold-Wire technology keeps the rack locked if its power wires are cut and an external power source is applied, and an electronic timer delay is built in. The Model 1070 is a mechanical multi-weapon rack that accommodates pistol grip weapons and other configurations. The company began when Kevin Pintar designed a bracket to secure his own long guns, found police chiefs at a Las Vegas trade show asking whether it would fit a patrol car, and started production from a garage in Boise before selling at a 2008 SWAT show in Orlando.
