How this is calculated
This tool sizes a shop by maintenance workload rather than a flat vehicle count. Each class of equipment demands a different amount of shop time, so a refuse truck is not staffed like a sedan. Your staffing assumptions and duty cycle tune how much labor each unit is expected to need, and the total is divided by the productive hours one technician delivers per year.
- Workload: your fleet is converted into total annual maintenance hours based on the class mix and the assumptions you selected.
- Headcount: that workload is divided by a technician's productive hours to give recommended FTEs.
- Benchmark check: your units-per-technician ratio is shown against typical ranges for your fleet type.
These are planning estimates to support budget and staffing conversations, not a substitute for a formal staffing study that accounts for your shop layout, outsourcing mix, shift coverage, and local labor conditions.
