More than 1.27 million Chrysler Ram 1500 pickups have been recalled because improperly attached rear seat belt anchors could increase passengers’ risk of injury in a crash, according to federal safety regulators .

The recall covers certain 2019-26 Ram 1500 pickups with second-row center or driver-side seat belt buckle anchors that may not have been properly fastened to the vehicle body. Dealers will inspect the anchors and secure them if necessary at no charge. Owner notifications are scheduled to begin around Aug. 18.

The affected pickups were built from Feb. 17, 2018, through April 27, 2026, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filing.

An improperly fastened anchor may reduce a seat belt’s ability to manage force and restrain an occupant, increasing the risk of injury during certain driving conditions or a crash. The filing does not say the problem increases the risk of causing a crash.

The recall covers 1,271,294 vehicles in the U.S., 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico and an additional 75,000 outside North America, Reuters reported.

FCA US said in the NHTSA filing that the recall involves an assembly problem rather than a defective component. An anchor may not have been properly secured to the vehicle.

The company estimates that about 0.1% of the recalled pickups have the condition, though all recalled vehicles are subject to inspection.

Dealers are expected to be notified around Aug. 6, when affected vehicle identification numbers are also scheduled to become searchable. FCA US plans to begin mailing notices to owners around Aug. 18.

FCA US is a subsidiary of Stellantis , which owns the Ram and Chrysler brands.

Owners can reference NHTSA recall number 26V495 or FCA US recall number 67D when contacting a dealer.
