Overview
SafeGuard, a brand of IMMI, has designed school bus seating and child restraints for more than 25 years and says it introduced the first school bus seat with integrated lap-shoulder belts. Its SABRE seats offer seatback options including integrated child seats and 3-point lap-shoulder belts, and the company states its seating meets all regulatory requirements. The STAR line covers child restraints, including the STAR, SuperSTAR and STAR Special Needs models, and it also makes flat-bottom steering wheels designed for current bus models and integrated with the 4Front driver airbag system. Seating systems are tested to FMVSS standards at CAPE, the company’s Center for Advanced Product Evaluation. Manufacturing runs from four plants each dedicated to one bus maker: Westfield, Indiana for IC Bus, High Point, North Carolina for Thomas Built Buses, Macon, Georgia for Blue Bird and South Hutchinson, Kansas for Collins. An online Find Your Seat tool lets a district identify the seats on its buses along with compatible parts and upgrades, and a summer exchange programme offers savings on replacing expired restraints.
