First Light Safety Products

Making student transportation safer with Illuminated School Bus Signs and Fully Illuminated Stop Arms engineered to increase visibility.

Overview

First Light Safety Products makes high-visibility lighting for school buses, built around two products. The Illuminated School Bus Sign replaces the standard SCHOOL BUS decal and back-lit signs with large lit warning panels, and the Fully Illuminated Stop Arm is designed for visibility in darkness, dusk, dawn, fog, rain, snow and on poorly lit roads. The company was founded in Canada, with sales and distribution infrastructure in the United States, and says it designs, tests and manufactures its school bus products in North America using US and globally sourced components. It spent more than three and a half years designing and testing the two products after starting work in 2017, consulting mechanics, transportation directors, drivers and regulatory bodies along the way. Critical production steps including plastics, electronics and lens printing are handled in house at its Canadian facility, and both products are available as factory installed options. It publishes a stop arm violation tracker with state-level data comparing illegal passing before and after districts installed its products, and states its goal as zero violations, zero accidents and zero fatalities.
