ASE Certification (ASE)
The common technician certification in the United States, taken by area such as brakes, electrical or diesel engines. The usual baseline for shop staff qualification.
ASE certifies technicians by subject area rather than as a single qualification, so a technician holds certifications in the areas they have tested in and renews them periodically.
For a fleet it is mainly a hiring and pay-structure instrument. Many public shops tie pay steps or classifications to certifications held, which makes it one of the few levers a fleet manager has on recruitment and retention in a market where private shops compete for the same people.
It also appears in specifications for outsourced work, as the straightforward way to state a required standard for a vendor technicians.
