Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification (EVT)

Certification for technicians who service fire apparatus, ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Administered by an independent nonprofit across the United States and Canada.

EVT certification tests technicians specifically on emergency vehicles, which are not ordinary trucks: apparatus pumps and aerials, ambulance electrical systems and patient compartments, and the standards those are built to.

For a public fleet it is one of the clearest cases where a general technician credential is not sufficient. A shop maintaining fire apparatus is working on equipment whose failure has an obvious consequence, and EVT is the recognized way to show the people doing it are qualified for that specific work.

It matters in outsourcing decisions too. Whether an outside vendor holds it is a reasonable thing to require in a specification.
