John Deere Launches 40 P-Tier Compact Excavator With Enhanced Hydraulics
New compact model emphasizes attachment versatility and easy transport for jobsite use

John Deere plans to unveil the 40 P-Tier Compact Excavator at Equip Exposition, October 20-23, 2026, positioning the machine for landscaping, rental, utility and general construction work in fleets that need attachment versatility without a commercial driver’s license requirement for transport.
The 40 P-Tier comes standard with Attachment Manager technology, which stores preset hydraulic settings for compatible attachments so operators can switch tooling without re-entering parameters each time. Optional enhancements include a hydraulic pin-grabber coupler, factory-installed thumb, angle blade, auxiliary hydraulic packages and an add-on rear-view camera. John Deere is also releasing a new ME28 Mulching Head timed to the 40 P-Tier launch; the attachment is designed for right-of-way maintenance and fence-line clearing and features a variable-speed motor, a durable rotor design and reversible Cubit knife-style teeth.

Inside the cab, the 40 P-Tier carries features from larger models in the lineup: the John Deere CommandARM control pod, an 8-inch touchscreen display, an integrated electronic pattern changer, optional premium Bluetooth radio and available rear-view camera. Standard JDLink connectivity feeds machine location and health data to John Deere Operations Center for fleet visibility and utilization tracking. Cab configurations include heat and air conditioning, premium seating and added storage. Daily service points are designed for external access.
