RC Mowers Debuts RECONX Autonomous Mower and Year-Round Attachments for REAPER

One trained operator can supervise up to three of the new gas-powered mowers, which start at $39,986 and go into production in spring 2027.

RC Mowers introduced RECONX, an autonomous commercial mower that lets one trained operator supervise up to three machines at once, at Equip Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. The manufacturer, based near Green Bay, Wisconsin, also renamed its product lines and released attachments that let its remote-controlled slope mower plow snow, spread salt, spray and cultivate.

RECONX is aimed at municipalities, parks, airports, commercial properties, solar fields and other large properties. It goes into production in spring 2027. The 60-inch model starts at $39,986 and the 72-inch model at $41,882, according to the company’s website.

“Our customers need equipment that helps them accomplish more with the crews they already have,” said RC Mowers CEO Michael Brandt. “RECONX brings together everything we’ve learned over four years of developing, deploying, and supporting autonomous mowers in real commercial operations. The result is an entirely new platform, built to make commercial autonomous mowing more capable, more reliable, and easier to use.”

One operator, three mowers

RC Mowers said RECONX was designed from the start as an autonomous stand-on mower rather than adapted from a traditional zero-turn. One operator can supervise up to three units with an operating range of a half mile or more, leaving crew members free for trimming and detail work. Each machine typically mows 4 to 5 acres per hour.

Crews map a property once using GPS and RTK positioning, then save the mow plan, along with the deck height for that property, for later visits. Plans are built and run from a 10.1-inch touchscreen or a mobile app for iOS and Android, which also show productivity data, fuel use, maintenance needs and engine diagnostics.

LiDAR and onboard sensors watch the area around the mower, which slows and stops for people, animals, vehicles and obstacles. A handheld remote stops every unit in the field with one button.

Both deck sizes run a 40-horsepower Vanguard Big Block EFI engine with 500-hour oil change intervals and a 14-gallon fuel tank that the company says supports all-day runtime. The decks are fabricated from 7-gauge steel and cut from 1.5 to 5 inches. The release says CutShift technology extends the cutting height to 7 inches without extra attachments for tall grass, airfields and rights-of-way. The company’s website lists CutShift as an option.

RECONX 72 72 in. $41,882 1,461 lb.

RC Mowers will continue to sell and support its current sit-on autonomous mower through 2027.

New names and a slope mower for every season

The company’s remote-controlled slope mower, formerly the R Series, is now called REAPER, and the machine itself is unchanged. Its autonomous line, formerly the A Series, is now RECONX.

REAPER mows 50-degree slopes in any direction while its operator stays up to 1,000 feet away. The new attachments include:

  • A broadcast sprayer with a 35-gallon tank, up to 10 feet of boom coverage and a 100-foot hose reel.
  • A four-way articulating snowplow and a salt spreader with a 300-pound capacity, which work at the same time.
  • A Category 1 three-point hitch and an eight-tine soil cultivator for ground preparation.
  • Tool racks, chainsaw and can carrier mounts, a second fire extinguisher mount, a 4,500-pound winch kit and LED lighting.

RC Mowers, founded in 2018, builds its mowers in the U.S. and sells them through a nationwide network of dealers. Its customers include public works departments, road departments and municipal, state and federal parks systems.
