Second-row seat belt buckle anchors that may not have been properly secured to the vehicle body have triggered a recall of more than 1.27 million Chrysler Ram 1500 pickups, including 1,271,294 in the U.S., with an additional 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico and 75,000 outside North America.

The recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under recall number 26V495 and FCA US recall number 67D, covers certain 2019-2026 model-year Ram 1500s with second-row center or driver-side seat belt buckle anchors. The affected trucks were built from Feb. 17, 2018, through April 27, 2026.

FCA US, a Stellantis subsidiary, identified the problem as an assembly error rather than a defective component: an anchor may not have been properly fastened to the vehicle body. An improperly secured anchor can reduce the belt’s ability to manage crash forces and restrain an occupant, increasing injury risk during certain driving conditions or a crash. The NHTSA filing notes the condition does not increase the risk of causing a crash. FCA US estimates roughly 0.1% of recalled vehicles have the defect, though all are subject to inspection.

Dealers are scheduled to be notified around Aug. 6, at which point affected vehicle identification numbers are also expected to become searchable. Owner notification letters are scheduled to begin mailing around Aug. 18. Dealers will inspect the anchors and secure them if necessary at no charge. Owners can reference NHTSA recall number 26V495 or FCA US recall number 67D when contacting a dealer.
