Suffolk County, N.Y Secures Funding to Add 30 Police, Sheriff Vehicles

After a congressman secured more than $2 million in federal appropriations to boost the Suffolk County, N.Y. law enforcement fleet, the county will add 30 vehicles to its police and sheriff’s fleets.
Rep. Nick LaLota secured the funding, which will allow the Suffolk County Police Department to receive $825,000 for 15 vehicles and the Sheriff’s Office to receive $1.2 million for the remaining 15.
LaLota presented the $2.025 million funding at an Aug. 13 ceremony at Suffolk County Police Department headquarters.
Suffolk County Undersheriff John Becker said vehicles are among the most important tools for deputies.
“Our personnel need safe and reliable vehicles to do their jobs effectively,” Becker said. Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said the funding will “help the men and women of the Suffolk County Police Department not only be safer but keep the people of Suffolk County safer, as well.”
