Leader Ambulance

Southern California ambulance manufacturer with Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, and custom ambulances.

Overview

Leader Ambulance has manufactured emergency vehicles in Southern California since 1975, when founder Gary Hunter pioneered building ambulances on cutaway truck chassis rather than the Cadillac station wagon chassis then standard. The company builds Type 1 modules on heavy-duty chassis with pass-through windows and multiple length and headroom options, van-style Type 2 units on Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter chassis, Type 3 cutaway ambulances built to BLS, ALS, and CCT requirements, and high-risk infection control models designed to protect first responders. Each vehicle starts as a 3D CAD drawing customized to the customer, with components cut on an industrial CNC router, in-house wire harnesses, and paint mixed on site. Leader is known for its signature overhead console and its West Coast after-sales support, and became part of REV Group in 2010.
