NCSA Cooperative Purchasing Programs

The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association serves as the statewide voice to protect, promote, preserve, and enhance the Office of Sheriff in North Carolina.

Overview

The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association is a statewide 501(c)(3) non-profit that has represented all 100 of North Carolina’s sheriffs since 1922. Its procurement program gives any county or city agency a statewide purchasing route for vehicles, technology and first responder equipment, with the stated aims of simplifying the purchasing process, securing competitive pricing and supporting buyers with ongoing education. On the supplier side the association describes the program as offering fair and equitable contracting opportunities in a competitive statewide market. The association also handles legislative advocacy at the General Assembly, training and standards work, and conferences and meetings for sheriffs and their personnel. North Carolina was the first state to establish a Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. The association separately funds a Criminal Justice Scholarship for students who are dependents of law enforcement officials or are studying criminal justice, administered through the state’s public and private university systems.
