Overview

Westward Industries builds compact electric utility vehicles in North America for municipal, campus and commercial fleets, and is a family business run by the Franz brothers, who bought the company in 2012. Its long-running GO-4 line has been in production since 1990 and is best known as a purpose-built parking enforcement vehicle used by cities across the U.S. and as a patrol presence for the New York City Police Department. The current MAX-EV range covers street-legal low-speed vehicles including a four-seater and a compact three-wheel model, plus off-road utility task vehicles with optional four-wheel drive and a purpose-built electric refuse model. MAX-EV vehicles run lithium-ion packs giving 32 to 120 miles before accessory draw, recharge in four to six hours, and sit on a 2.5 inch steel tubular powder-coated chassis, with factory-set speed limits available where pedestrian and cycle traffic is a concern. The company has supplied municipalities and universities since the 1990s, naming public works, water treatment, landscape and sanitation departments among its users, and cites the University of North Carolina ordering nearly 40 more units after its first. Westward is listed on Sourcewell and sells through a dealer network.
