General Motors (GM)

Automaker behind Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac, founded in 1908, with a portfolio spanning retail and commercial vehicles including EVs.

Overview

General Motors was founded on September 16, 1908 in Flint, Michigan by William Durant and builds vehicles across four brands: Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac. The company positions Chevrolet around strength and dependability, Buick around everyday luxury, GMC around professional grade capability and Cadillac around style. Vehicles it highlights include the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the Buick Enclave, the GMC Canyon and the Cadillac Escalade IQ, which GM says has the longest range of any electric SUV. GM states a long term goal of zero crashes, zero tailpipe emissions and zero congestion, and describes a portfolio spanning retail and commercial vehicles. The company traces its approach to Alfred Sloan’s idea of a car for every purse and purpose.
