General Motors’ third-quarter sales presentation lists its best government fleet sales for the first nine months of a year since 2012, and Global Vice President Ian Hucker credited more orders from state and local agencies and better availability of the Chevrolet Tahoe, CBT News reported.

The deck, dated Oct. 1, also lists GM’s best fleet sales for the period since 2019, its best commercial sales since 2023 and its best full-size pickup fleet sales on record. GM published no government unit counts. Hucker said in an Oct. 2 LinkedIn post that fleet sales rose 10% in the third quarter; the post did not mention government sales.

The government detail comes from Hucker’s remarks to CBT News. He said expanding GM’s fleet field team strengthened face-to-face engagement with public-sector customers, and that in prior years capacity had been the main constraint on Tahoe sales. Greater availability of the SUV helped public-sector sales, he said.

Pickups account for about one-third of GM’s fleet business, CBT reported. Fleet made up nearly 21% of GM’s first-half sales, up from about 17% a year earlier. Cox Automotive data put fleet at nearly 20% of U.S. light-vehicle volume through the first nine months, while retail sales fell 5%. GM’s consumer incentives averaged about 4.7% of MSRP in the second quarter, against an industry average of 6.3%.

On the commercial side, Hucker said customers in sectors with strong underlying activity, including oil and gas, drove record full-size pickup deliveries, and that GM concentrated supply on the industries showing the strongest demand.

The next test for fleet supply is the phased launch of the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, CBT reported. Production of the next-generation models ramps through 2027 across multiple plants, with crew cabs first, then regular cabs and double cabs. Dealer launch inventory and demo units are timed around commercial deliveries.
