Truckee Approves Fleet Electrification Plan

A plan for the town of Truckee, Calif. could result in its fleet to be fully electrified by 2045, and the plan also addresses charging for employee personal vehicles at both facilities.
The Truckee Town Council approved a $31.1 million plan for vehicle and charging spending that could make the town’s 141-unit fleet fully electrified by 2045.
Truckee already operates more than 17 electric vehicles and two electric motorcycles. The town purchased its first electric vehicle for staff use in 2021.
Full electrification of the evaluated fleet would require approximately $25.5 million in vehicle capital expenditures and $5.6 million in charging infrastructure between 2027 and 2044.
Fifty of the 141 vehicles and pieces of equipment are subject to California’s Advanced Clean Fleet regulations. Meeting the state mandate is estimated at approximately $8.3 million in vehicle expenditures and $2.3 million in charging infrastructure investments.
The plan includes a proposed transition timeline, an electrical grid capacity assessment, necessary infrastructure upgrades and preliminary site plans for charging at the Public Service Center and Town Hall.
The plan also considers the town’s diverse fleet, including light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty trucks and specialized equipment, as well as the challenges of winter operations. The plan also addresses charging for employee personal vehicles at both facilities.
