More than 3,000 sworn personnel, 100 dispatchers and 100 professional staff at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) in California are now operating on Mark43’s cloud-based computer-aided dispatch and records management platform, replacing a system the department had run for 25 years.
The deployment serves 3.2 million residents across 4,200 square miles. The go-live follows the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department’s earlier 2026 launch on the same platform, helping expand coordinated response and regional information-sharing across the area.
The Mark43 computer-aided dispatch system gives dispatchers modern mapping, visual layers and real-time unit locations. The platform also supports remote dispatching for non-emergency calls, expanding staffing flexibility beyond the primary communications center.
Field personnel gain access through Mark43 First Responder, which includes an OnScene application with CarPlay capabilities, letting deputies pull live dispatch details on phones and in vehicles as incidents develop.
Ashish Kakkad, chief technology officer at SDSO, said the agency’s technology decisions center on solving operational problems. “Our approach to technology starts with solving operational challenges. Mark43 gives us a platform that can evolve with our needs, improve efficiency, strengthen officer safety, and better serve San Diego County,” Kakkad said.
Communications Coordinator Tamra Samuels, who led integration and testing for the department, said the rollout drew on years of cross-departmental planning and called it exciting to see the modern platform support operations going forward. Captain Nathan Rowley said SDSO saw immediate improvements in workflows and access to information following the transition, noting that strong partnerships are essential when developing tools that better serve communities.
Bob Hughes, CEO of Mark43, said the partnership with Sheriff Martinez, CTO Kakkad and the SDSO team had been exceptional and that the company looks forward to continued innovation together. Mark43 said its platform is currently trusted by more than 300 agencies.
