Charging Level
The rate class of electric vehicle charging. Level 1 is a standard outlet, Level 2 is the normal depot choice, and DC fast charging is the rapid option.
Level 1 uses an ordinary household outlet and adds very little range per hour. Level 2 runs on higher-voltage service and is what most fleet depots install. DC fast charging delivers direct current at much higher power for a rapid partial charge.
For a fleet the useful question is not which is fastest but which matches the dwell time. A vehicle parked for twelve hours overnight does not need fast charging, and Level 2 across many bays is usually cheaper to install and to run than a few fast chargers. Fast charging earns its cost where vehicles turn around mid-shift or where a single unit must be returned to service quickly.
Demand charges are the part that surprises budgets. Drawing a lot of power at once can cost much more than the same energy drawn slowly, which is why charge scheduling is a cost decision rather than a convenience one.
