Electronic Logging Device (ELD)

An electronic logging device connects to the engine and records driving time automatically, replacing paper logs for drivers subject to hours-of-service rules.

Whether a public fleet is subject to the requirement is genuinely case-by-case, turning on the vehicle, the operation and applicable exemptions, several of which are relevant to government and emergency work. This is a question to answer against the rules and the agency counsel rather than to infer from what a neighboring jurisdiction does.
