Motor Coach Industries will deliver 92 MCI D45 CRT commuter coaches to New York City Transit under a contract the agency awarded and MCI announced Oct. 6, 2026.
Funding for the order draws from state, local and Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) sources. The coaches will replace aging vehicles on express bus routes. NFI Group Inc. (NFI), MCI’s parent, has recorded the contract in its third-quarter 2026 backlog.
The D45 CRT is purpose-built for high-capacity commuter and express operations. MCI backs the product line with 24/7 roadside assistance, parts support and in-field technical service.
“New York City Transit plays a vital role in connecting communities of the world’s largest and most dynamic metropolitan regions,” said Rob Marion, President of MCI. “We are proud to continue our longstanding partnership with NYCT and the broader MTA family by delivering high-quality commuter coaches that will enhance the customer experience and support consistent express bus service for riders.”
New York City Transit is part of the MTA, which operates North America’s largest transportation network. The MTA operates the nation’s largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined, serving a population of 15.3 million across 5,000 square miles covering New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State and Connecticut.
MCI is a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., which also builds heavy-duty transit buses under the New Flyer brand, low-floor cutaway and medium-duty buses under the ARBOC brand and supplies parts through NFI Parts. NFI employs more than 9,000 people across ten countries and operates more than 40 facilities, supporting an installed base of more than 100,000 buses and coaches worldwide.
