Agile Fleet, headquartered in the Chantilly, Virginia area, has released FleetCommander GO, a vehicle-sharing module that pairs its FleetCommander reservation platform with Keycafe SmartBox key-dispatch hardware to give individual departments and smaller fleets automated reservations and secure key access without a centralized motor pool.

“Organizations should not need a large, centralized motor pool to benefit from automated reservations and secure key access,” Don Dymont, chief executive officer of Agile Fleet, said in the announcement. “FleetCommander GO lowers the hardware barrier and makes it practical to bring vehicle sharing closer to the people who use those vehicles. Departments and smaller organizations can begin with the capacity they need, while larger fleets can create more convenient access points across their operations.”

Each deployment starts with a nine-key SmartBox base station. Organizations can expand capacity at an existing location using 18- or 42-key units, or establish additional key-dispatch points elsewhere in their operations. Freestanding installations and weather-resistant outdoor enclosures are available for sites without suitable indoor wall space.

The workflow runs from reservation through key return without staff involvement at each handoff. A driver requests a vehicle through FleetCommander, receives a vehicle assignment and SmartBox location, then authenticates at the SmartBox using an app, access card, or PIN to retrieve only the assigned key. Approval routing is automatic where required. Every pickup and return generates a time-stamped record tied to a specific driver and vehicle, producing an audit trail and utilization data the fleet team can use to evaluate demand and right-size the pool.

Because the SmartBox handles authentication, the system can release keys outside normal business hours without leaving them unsecured or requiring a staff member to oversee each exchange.

Agile Fleet lists government agencies, colleges and universities, utilities, businesses and nonprofit organizations among eligible customers. The product is available now; demonstrations can be scheduled at agilefleet.com.
