Motive Rolls Out Geofence Privacy and Event Suppression for AI Dashcam Fleet Platform

The tool lets fleet administrators suppress driver recording and silence false-positive safety alerts within defined zones, with full U.S. availability expected through the fourth quarter of 2026.

Motive has begun a phased rollout of Geofence Privacy and Event Suppression for its AI Dashcam platform, with availability in the U.S. expected through Q4 ’26.

The feature targets facilities where recording restrictions apply by contract, union agreement or site policy, and locations where certain safety alerts generate false positives, such as stop sign detection at a landfill, hard brake detection in a quarry, or mobile device alerts at a refueling station. Without location-based controls, managers must turn off recording manually or dismiss safety events individually, which can create privacy gaps and add noise to safety reports.

Administrators build rules through the Motive Dashboard using a prebuilt template powered by Motive AI Agents. Rules can target individual vehicles or groups and individual geofences or geofence categories. Within a selected zone, a rule can activate Driver Privacy Mode, which stops driver-facing recording and driver-facing event detection and signals the change to the driver with a green LED indicator. Alternatively, administrators can stop capture from both the driver-facing and road-facing cameras entirely, which also disables collision detection; the camera LED turns off so drivers can confirm recording has stopped. When full camera capture is off, managers cannot live stream or access live view for vehicles inside the zone.

For sites where recording should continue, administrators can suppress detection for specific safety events, such as seat belt violations in a yard, or turn off all eligible events at once. Suppressing an event also silences the corresponding in-cab alert. Because managers no longer dismiss those events by hand, drivers’ Safety Scores reflect only genuine incidents.

Rules run on the device rather than in the cloud, so they apply within seconds and remain active in areas without cellular coverage. No separate exit rule is required. Once a vehicle leaves the geofence, cameras revert to the account’s standard Motive Dashboard settings, and any changes logged while the vehicle was on site carry over. The device stays powered and continues reporting location and telematics data throughout.

Geofence Privacy and Event Suppression is currently available on the AI Dashcam as part of the phased rollout. Availability for the AI Dashcam Plus is listed as coming soon.
